Greetings, wildlife enthusiasts and adventure seekers! As the sun shines brighter and the days grow longer, the Farne Islands are buzzing with excitement. Even though this has to be the worst season for the weather the seabirds have had a spectacular season so far, filled with incredible sights, delightful surprises, and more puffins than you can shake a feather at. Grab your binoculars and join us as we recap the highlights of this puffin-packed season!

Nature’s Feathered Comedians

Let’s start with the stars of the show – our beloved puffins. These charming little seabirds have been putting on quite the performance this season. With around 80,000 puffins calling the Farnes home, it’s been a non-stop parade of cuteness. From their adorable waddles to their comically clumsy landings, puffins never fail to bring a smile to our faces. They’ve been busy too, diving for fish and popping in and out of their burrows like nature’s own whack-a-mole game.

While you might not always see thousands at once (these puffins are masters of hide-and-seek, after all), every sighting is a treat. Catching a glimpse of a puffin with a beak full of fish is like spotting a celebrity – if that celebrity wore a tuxedo and had a penchant for seafood.

Seabird Symphony: More Than Just Puffins

But wait, there’s more! Our Seabird Cruises have been a hit all year round, bringing guests face-to-face with a dazzling array of birdlife. From the majestic gannets performing their dramatic dive-bombs to the elegant terns diving bombing our guests who have landed on the Inner Farne and bustling guillemots, the Farnes are alive with avian activity. And let’s not forget our resident seals, who have been basking on the rocks and striking poses for the cameras like true professionals. They’re the supermodels of the sea, and they know it.

Nature’s Unpredictable Charm

One of the best parts of visiting the Farne Islands is that you never quite know what nature has in store. It’s like the world’s most exhilarating live show, with a cast of thousands and no two performances alike. While we can promise a stunning variety of wildlife, the exact lineup can be a delightful surprise. Whether it’s a close encounter with a curious seal or a sudden flurry of puffins, every trip is a unique adventure.

The Seasonal Stars

Now, for those of you planning a visit specifically for our puffin friends, remember they’re here for a limited engagement – typically from April to late July. So, if you haven’t made it out to see them yet, now’s the time! After that, our Seabird Cruises continue to offer breathtaking encounters with the other incredible residents of the Farnes, ensuring there’s always something to marvel at.

Join the Fun!

As we sail into the heart of summer, we invite you to join us for an unforgettable journey. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or just looking for a fun day out, the Farne Islands offer a slice of natural paradise that’s hard to beat. Bring your camera, your sense of wonder, and perhaps a sense of humor – because with puffins around, you never know when you’ll need it! but please don’t delay as many seabirds are leaving now and time is of the essence so the quicker you join us the better before the breeding season is over.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us so far this season. We can’t wait to see more of you on the water, sharing in the joy and wonder that is the Farne Islands. Here’s to many more adventures and unforgettable wildlife encounters!

Fair winds and happy birdwatching!
