Staple Island

Important notice – Due to the potentially devastating impact of Avian Flu (bird flu) on seabird colonies, the Farne Islands will be closed to visitors from Sunday 3 July. We are still sailing every day on our Grey Seal Cruise, Puffin Cruise, Holy Island and of course our Sunset Cruise. Please contact us directly by email to change your booking to another trip. info@farneislandstours.co.uk

Staple Island has dramatic views across all the Islands and is known for its vast seabird colonies, especially those of the Auk family such as Guillemots, Razorbills and Puffins. Puffins are the most numerous birds that nest on the Farnes with over 20,000 pairs nesting on Staple Island alone! A boardwalk over the top of the Island takes you straight through the nesting Puffins and this is where you can get close to some of Britain’s most spectacular breeding seabirds. This is a very rugged island so please remember to wear good shoes as its uneven underfoot. Its not suitable for infants.
