Our skippers are incredibly knowledgeable about the geography, history and the wildlife of the Farne Islands. We also have an on-board naturalist and we are happy to answer all your questions before, after and during our trips.

Sail Around

This Farne Islands tour is perfect for all of the family to view the seabird and seal habitats (depending on the time of year), view the magnificent scenery of the islands and Northumberland’s iconic coastline and learn of Grace Darling’s life saving heroics.

Inner Farne

Inner Farne

This Farne Islands tour lands on the fantastic diverse wildlife habitat of Inner Farne where St Cuthbert spent the latter part of his life and died there in 687AD. It is the largest of the Farne Islands and the most accessible. It is ideal for bird watchers and wildlife photographers, you can get incredibly close to thousands upon thousands of breeding birds! Remember to bring a hat!

Staple Island

Another of the Farne Islands which is ideal for bird watchers and wildlife photographers where you can get close to some of Britain’s most spectacular breeding seabirds.

Sunset Cruise

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings from May until September, departing from 7pm until 8.30 (ish!). Enjoy the incredible peace and tranquility of the Farne Islands during an evening cruise. See the wildlife basking in the evening light, watch the jumplings (guillemot chicks) take their leap of faith as they leave their nests. Fingers crossed for a beautiful sunset over Bamburgh Castle. This is a very popular trip for photographers as the Farne Islands bask in the warm light of the ‘golden hour’. A sunset cruise is wonderful way to end to a brilliant day on the Farne Islands.

Longstone Island

Experience the journey local heroine Grace Darling travelled in 1838 when she rescued survivors from the ship wreck, The Forfarshire. The historic and iconic Longstone Lighthouse dominates this island and is a great photographic subject.
In the Autumn and Winter this is a great trip to view some of the 4,000 breeding seals of the Farne Islands.
This tour takes approximately 2 hours allowing half hour landing on Longstone.

Northumberland based wildlife and conservation photographer & writer Alan Hewitt uses Serenity Farne Islands Tours exclusively for his wildlife photography workshops on the Farne Islands. Whale Watching (i)

We look to run these trips on an ad hoc basis in July, August & September depending on the number of sightings. The waters around the Farne Islands are known for minke whale, dolphins and porpoise. Humpback, sperm and orca have also been spotted in years gone by!
This tour is approximately 3 hours – No landing.
Adults: £25, Children: £15 (15 and under), Under 4: Free – No drinks included.

Whale Watching (ii)

As above but this is a 4-5 hour trip. No landing.
Adults: £40, Children: £25 (15 and under), Under 4: Free – Hot drinks included.

Winter Wildlife Trip

We will sail around the Farne Islands looking for Seals, Black Guillemots and Waders and then up to Holy Island in scearch for Long-tailed Ducks, Scoters, Grebes, Divers and more. After that we will work along the coastline passing Bamburgh Castle before returning to Seahouses.
This tour is approximately 4 hours – No landing.
Adults: £25, Children: £15 (15 and under), Under 4: Free – Hot drinks included. Bring lunch and wrap up well!

Seal Landing Trip

This is a 4 hour trip with 2 hours on Longstone Island and 2 hour sail around the islands. this trip is perfect for photography and wildlife lovers. Please wrap up well and wear shoes with god grip as the Longstone is very slippery and rugged. Limited dates due to the tides and limited spaces in the breeding season.
Adults: £25, Children: £15 (15 and under), Under 4: Free – Hot drinks included. Bring lunch and wrap up well!

Important Note:

Times and frequencies may change at short notice. The final decision to land on any of the Farne Islands is at the boat masters discretion. The National Trust charge a landing fee on Inner Farne & Staple Island. National Trust members land free of charge on production of their membership cards.
